This year National Marine Week launches on the 22nd of July. Each year the Wildlife Trusts nationally celebrates local sea animals and plants during National Marine Week.
The United Kingdom has a variety of marine species including dolphins, whales and giant squids– it is not necessary to travel abroad to encounter such fascinating species. However, these marine species and habitats are threatened from overfishing, man-made destruction and climate change. As highlighted by The Plastic Ocean Foundation, 1 in 3 species of marine mammals have been found entangled in marine litter. Sadly, in the last 15 years the amount of litter on our beaches has almost doubled.
National Marine Week generates a greater understanding and appreciation of the UK thriving coastal waters.
