The DoubleTree by Hilton York was recently recognised for its ethical business practices and support of charitable causes by being shortlisted in the Social Responsibility Business category at the York Press Business Awards.
The hotel was nominated as a result of its continued drive to operate in a more socially responsible manner – by considering its impact on the environment, supporting charities, and opposing modern day slavery and sexual exploitation within the hospitality industry.
Earlier this year, the hotel launched their in-house CARE committee to lead initiatives to benefit guests, colleagues and the local community.
The DoubleTree by Hilton CARE culture is brought to life through an active CARE Committee within its hotels, consisting of team members from all departments and levels of the hotel. Their role is to monitor their hotel’s overall business performance and constantly seek ways to improve it – with a focus on achieving outstanding guest service, demonstrating positive team relations and contributing to the local community.
The committee at the DoubleTree by Hilton York have certainly been active. Since it’s inception in January, they have engaged in a number of charity initiatives for local organisations, including a sponsored pancake toss in aid of St Leonard’s Hospice, and a Chari-Tea for Martin House Children’s Hospice.
In October, the committee organised an Afternoon Light Bites fundraiser, with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Society. Organiser Dan Edwards commented:
“The CARE Committee is here to ‘create a rewarding experience’ within our local community, hence us holding special events for charities and local organisations. From a personal perspective, I am particularly pleased that our CARE Committee has chosen the Alzheimer’s Society. My grandmother, Joyce, has lived with dementia for many years and, thanks to charities like the Alzheimer’s Society, is living well.”
Continuing their support for this cause, the team will be getting in the festive spirit on the 7th December in support of Elf Day – with the team dressing up as elves to again raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
They are also taking part in the national Christmas Jumper Day event on 14th December, raising money in support of Save the Children.
