Helping Hotels Overcome Sustainability Challenges

Considerate Hoteliers is now helping more than 150 hotels, within the UK and internationally, overcome CSR and sustainability challenges, by providing advice and support on a range of topics from waste management through to establishing local volunteer projects. Latest members include the InterContinental London – The O2 and The Royal Garden Hotel.

Considerate Hoteliers has also been appointed to implement the CSR strategy for the Mustique Company, a management company for the Caribbean Island’s Cotton House Hotels and 100 privately-owned villas. As part of the appointment, Considerate Hoteliers will carry out a CSR audit before creating and implementing a strategy that includes purchasing policies and communication activities, which will support the Mustique Company’s goal of becoming the leader for sustainable and responsible tourism within the Caribbean.

The Con-Serve™ data management system by Considerate Hoteliers helps hospitality businesses monitor, benchmark and mine information so they can adopt green practices that will also enable them to save money. It is already helping groups such as the Edwardian Group, the Oetker Collection and Qbic Hotels save thousands of pounds by correlating costs such as electricity, waste, water and transport with occupancy rate or restaurant covers.

Xenia zu Hohenlohe, business partner of Considerate Hoteliers says: “With COP21, the world’s biggest unilateral agreement to take action on climate change, having just been signed in New York, there is now even greater impetus among the hotel sector for adopting greener practices and implementing a robust CSR strategy. In this respect we’re seeing a greater keenness and need among hoteliers for advice that is tailored towards their individual situation.

“It’s one thing adopting responsible business solutions but it’s quite another becoming greener while remaining profitable. Sustainability and CSR are not just on the agenda of the bigger hotel groups as both independent hotels and guesthouses are now increasingly focusing on these challenges.”
