Reducing Emissions and Cutting Costs

By working with Considerate Group, eight hotels in our local area of London have reduced their CO2 emissions by 20% in only one year – and saved almost £60,000 in the process.

Towards the end of 2018 we began working with the PaddingtonNow Business Improvement District on an air quality project designed to highlight to local businesses how they can reduce their CO2 emissions and cut their energy costs.

It is estimated that around 30% of global CO2 emissions come from the energy consumption generated within buildings – which in turn are a contributor to poor air quality.

As part of this innovative year long project, we monitored the electricity and gas consumption of these eight hotels using our data management system Con-Serve™ – which is specifically designed to help hospitality businesses better understand their energy usage, and allows easy insights in to energy efficiency by also taking occupancy levels in to account.

While using this data to provide a baseline and monitor progress, we undertook a behavioural change workshop with representatives from each hotel to encourage better understanding of their consumption and how we can all make an impact. Bespoke recommendations were also provided for each hotel.

At the end of the year, these hotels saved a combined 161 tonnes of CO2 – which has the same positive impact as covering over half of Hyde Park in trees! The project also brought a tangible return on investment within 12 months.
